football

Have you ever played a sport or done something so amazing that you would be crushed if you couldn’t play or do it? Well that how I feel about football. Football is the best sport in the world. It is very easy to play and it is a good way to learn how to work as a team. The only thing is that could be dangerous. You are most likely to get a concussion or two while playing football, not in one game but over a period of time. But that’s the only down side to playing football. Otherwise it is such a fun sport.   

Ponies

 Authors note: This is a story about why i like ponies.

Ponies, there is so many thing to write about. they are such a loving animal. You can ride them and play with them and if you have a little girl or boy it is entertainment for them. and they are not to hard to take care of some food and water and a place to sleep is all they need. But the only down side is you have is picking up their messes and the smell isn't to great. But overall they are a very great pet.

Lottery

Authors note: This is about what i think about the lottery.

lotteries can change your life and ruin them if not careful. You can win 1,000,000 dollars but you could lose how many dollars you spend on it. And it is very unlikely you will win unless you do win. But i just don't like when you have a winning card and then it just turns out you win like 17 dollars. The people who receive the money from the lottery make a lot of money.

Steak

Authors note: this is about how i love steak 

I love steak. It is the best food ever, there is nothing that can come close to it, not anything. I love the juicy goodness It brings to me. It’s like eating a rainbow and riding a unicorn at the same time. You can really eat steak at any meal of the day. The only thing i don’t like about it is that i can’t really run after eating steak. But when you're really hungry that’s the food to go to. i love steak.  

Drilling in Alaska

Author's note: i wort this essay on the debate about if the government should drill in Alaska. and the goods and bads about drilling in Alaska.

 

Drilling in Alaska

Have you ever made a promise and was then debating on whether to break it or not?  That’s how the government is treating the ANWR.  The ANWR stands for Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.  In 1980 the government established the ANWR located in northern Alaska and promised not to drill for oil there.  Now the government is debating whether or not to drill in this wildlife refuge.  I don’t think that they should drill there because the government created the ANWR specifically to protect the wildlife and environment in Alaska.  I don’t think that it’s right that they suddenly change their decision.

Economically, I could see how drilling in the ANWR could be beneficial. It would bring money in through the oil companies that buy oil. It would also provide a significant increase in the jobs available. Drilling in the ANWR may as well decrease the United States dependency on foreign oil thus costing U.S. less overall.   Even though there are valid points for drilling within the ANWR, I still feel that the government shouldn’t go back on its original decision to maintain that areas eco system.    

Another reason I don’t agree with drilling in the ANWR is because it’s the birthing ground for many animals such as polar bears, grizzly bears, arctic wolves and caribou.  I feel that all of the industrialization that goes along with drilling oil will have a negative impact on the wildlife that rely on the safety of the reserve.    

Drilling in the ANWR could also effect the people that live in Alaska. Drilling could ruin the ecosystem in Alaska. The animals that call the ANWR home might have to find another place to live because the area could become polluted. And I’m pretty sure that the native Eskimos that live in Alaska don’t want to wake up and find a polar bear outside of their home every day        

Drilling in the ANWR has been a source of debate for several years.  Even though there may be a few good economic reasons for drilling in the ANWR, I still disagree and feel that the government should not drill there.  I feel that more importantly the reasons not to drill will be to preserve the wildlife and the fragile environment that exists in the ANWR.

Amazing story

Authors note: In this essay i focus on how Robert Muchamore puts humor into his stories, how he describes his charters and how the chapers are action packed.

The book Maximum Security by Robert Muchamore is awesome. What makes it awesome is all the action, the suspense and all the little pieces of humor Robert Muchamore puts in the story. This book has a little bit of everything.  

The book Maximum Security is action packed.  In just the second chapter of the book, the CHERUB group is at a bowling alley, these other high school kids show up and start spilling soda on them and then a fight ensues.  I few chapters later I read about these things called “buddy” bombs. Robert Muchamore described them as a one shot, one kill type thing and the twist was that each rocket cost a million dollars.  But there was a second twist. This story takes place in Great Britain and their ally is the United States and in the middle of shipping the buddy bombs to the U.S. they were “lost” otherwise taken.  So that added a great deal of suspense to the story.     

Another thing that really makes Robert Muchamore a great writer is that he thinks like a reader.  He knows that reading can get boring so he put little pieces of humor in his story where it can start to get wordy or a little bit boring. I haven’t read a book like Maximum  Security before.  

One of the things that really stands out about Robert Muchamore is how he describes the charters in the story.  He creates a visual picture in your head.  He doesn’t just tell you how they look, he tells you what they are like, their personalities, their past, if they are a happy or if they are just an overall mad person.  For example there was one woman in her thirties who had just came out of the army. Robert Muchamore described her as an overall biter girl that basically had no feelings.  He said that she did not care about how anyone felt except for her boss.  

Those are the reasons that I think Maximum Security is an amazing book. The humor, word placement, the description of the charters, the suspense and the action packed chapters. They all come together and make an amazing story.              

Death by water

Authors note: This essay is about overcoming a fear of water that almost killed you.

In America about 36% percent of people can't swim and world wide about 54% can't swim. The story Deep Water instantly grabs by you saying “It had happened when I was ten or eleven years old”(434). You can’t help but read more after that. The author William O. Douglas focuses on the realism and actuality of the world. William O. Douglas represents the scary things that we have to over come in our lives.

The realism in this book is crazy good. One good example is when this ten-year-old is droning. “This is nice….to be drowsy….to go to sleep….no need to jump….to tired to jump…it’s nice to be carried….floating in space.  I crossed to oblivion, and the curtain of life fell”(435). One time when I was 9 I did that same exact thing, except I knew how to swim. But it was still as scary not expecting it and falling into deep water.

William O. Douglas. He focus on being as real as possible. He doesn’t have some fairy come and same the little boy that’s drowning. William O. Douglas talks about how this little boy has to overcome his fear of being in the water. He talks about how this little boy goes to swimming lessons and every time the instructor lets the safety rope have a little slack the little boy gets worried.

The other thing I want to talk about how William O. Douglas puts his words. One piece that really blew me away was “I crossed to Oblivion and the curtain of life fell” (435). That really makes the reader think .  In the first paragraph when the little boy is two or three years old his dad took him to a lake and the waves kept knocking him down. His dad was laughing because he knew nothing was going to happen to the little boy but the little boy just felt so powerless.­


Realism and actuality are something that William O. Douglas focuses on. Those are what makes his stories good, intrusting.
